With a keen eye and ear for story, I am adept at identifying and capturing narrative. Then I deliver maximum exposure on deadline and on budget. Flexible across platforms –– print, digital, video, and social media; I draw on my extensive background in network television news and education communications to produce compelling content. With a strong record of media placement, including national and international publications and television, I have managed teams, projects, and vendor relationships. I have significant experience in crisis communications for the times a story needs to be managed.

Born and raised on the East Coast, I graduated from Princeton University before starting a career in television news. Spending more than a decade at CNN and then NBC News in both Washington, D.C. and New York, I covered beats ranging from business and international affairs to politics and humor. I received an Edward R. Murrow Award and later a Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club. I had a one-year residential appointment as a Knight-Bagehot Journalism Fellow at Columbia University.

Next, I joined Brown University’s public affairs office, where I worked to advance the university’s visibility locally, nationally, and internationally, most recently as its director of news and communications.  Later, I relocated to California to be Cate School's chief storyteller –– strategizing, overseeing, and developing content for the school's digital presence and print publications.

In 2017, I took on a communications and outreach role at La Casa de Maria Retreat and Conference Center in Montecito, California shortly before it was badly damaged by the massive mud and debris flow of January 9, 2018. My experience in crisis communications came in handy in the months that followed.

After a consulting stint, I spent two years Cal Maritime in Vallejo, California as its senior director of public affairs and strategic communications, overseeing a lean team that handled the website, social media, the magazine, media relations and university communications--all during Covid. I spent an academic year writing and editing for Claremont McKenna College before joining UC Santa Barbara's Office of Public Affairs and Communications, where I focus on internal communications.
